There’s been a lot of confusion about how to say Grimes and Elon Musk‘s baby’s name (or even why they picked it) and sadly, it’s getting even more confusing.

After Musk explained how to say X Æ A-12 Musk on The Joe Rogan Experience but in a reply on an Instagram post Grimes made yesterday, she gives a different variation on the pronunciation.

Yesterday, it came out that Elon Musk had said how to pronounce the name while also saying it was mostly a decision made by Grimes.

“Well, first of all, it was my partner [Grimes] who actually mostly came up with the name,” Musk says. “She’s brilliant.”

Elon Musk then explains how to say the name and who contributed to which parts.

“So, it’s just X, the letter x, and then the Æ is pronounced Ash.” He continues by saying his contribution to the name is A-12 as in the Archangel 12, which is the “precursor to SR-71, the coolest plane ever.”

According to Musk then, his son’s name is X Ash Archangel Twelve. “It’s great,” he said proudly.

While people initially were guessing how the child’s name could actually be something you can say, Grimes confirmed some theories while throwing in an extra layer of nonsense to confuse people.

•X, the unknown variable
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent
+
(A=Archangel, my favorite song)

If all of that isn’t confusing enough, Grimes is here to throw in an extra layer of confusion by negating part of Musk’s explanation.

In an Instagram reply yesterday, she says that the name is said how it looks.

“It’s just X, like the letter X. Then A.I. Like how you said the letter A then I.”

So, the Æ section of the name could be said as ash or A I apparently.

Sadly, the name isn’t likely going to stick anyway.

According to TMZ, the name is in violation of California law as it is illegal for a name to include numbers or symbols. This is according to a supervisor at the Department of Public Health Vital Records Office in Los Angeles where the baby is believed to have been born. The law states names can only include the 26 letters in the English alphabet.

How do you think X Æ A-12 Musk is actually supposed to be said? Let us know in the comments below.
