Two Powerball tickets worth $200,000 and six worth $50,000 were sold for Saturday night’s drawing while no tickets matched all of the winning numbers, pushing the Powerball jackpot for Monday to an estimated $810 million.
If someone hits the jackpot on New Year’s night, the prize would be at least the fifth largest Powerball prize and 10th biggest in U.S. lottery history. It has an approximate cash option of $408.9 million.
While no second-prize tickets were bought in New Jersey for Saturday’s $786 million drawing, eight third-prize tickets were purchased in the state including two bought with the Power Play option for an extra $1 that are worth $200,000 each. Six other tickets valued at $50,000 each were bought in New Jersey. Each matched four numbers plus the Powerball.
New Jersey Lottery officials have not yet disclosed the locations where the winning tickets were sold.
Saturday’s winning numbers were: 10, 11, 26, 27 and 34. The Powerball drawn was 7 with a Power Play of 4X.
Nationally, seven second-prize tickets matching five numbers but not the Powerball were bought. Tickets sold in Texas and West Virginia were purchased with the Power Play option and are worth $2 million. Tickets valued at $1 million each were bought in Colorado, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The New York ticket was sold at a Wegmans in Depew, a suburb of Buffalo, officials said.
In addition, no one hit the secondary $10 million Double Play drawing. Those winning numbers are: 1, 4, 5, 6 and 42. The Double Play number drawn was 8.
No one has hit the jackpot since Oct. 11 when a ticket worth $1.765 billion was bought in Frazier Park, California — about 70 miles north of Los Angeles.
The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 to win a third prize of at least $50,000.
Powerball drawings are held each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
